FBD Hotels & Resorts prioritise a sustainable future, aiming to enhance the community's social, economic, and environmental well-being. We acknowledge their role in safeguarding the environment for future generations and ensuring the tourism industry's long-term sustainability. Partnering with CBRE, global experts in advising properties on ESG strategy, we're developing a measurable roadmap for environmental, social, and governance goals, aiming for tangible improvements.
Notable efforts include Castleknock Hotel's pioneering green policy since 2007, earning environmental accolades like the recent Green Tourism silver award in 2023. Each hotel maintains a green team, while a group-level ESG committee collaborates on sustainability. Partnerships with Green Tourism, Green Hospitality, and workshops like Fifty Shades of Green, alongside participation in Repak for recycling, showcase their commitment to eco-friendly practices.
La Cala boasts 30+ years of sustainable initiatives, from using recycled water for efficient irrigation on their golf courses to transitioning to bermuda grass (30% less water) and innovative meteorological-driven irrigation. They've replaced petrol buggies with lithium batteries, installed substantial solar panels (160kw hourly) which power their golf clubhouse, offices and golf maintenance buildings. https://www.lacala.com/the-resort/environmental-policy .
Killashee recently planted 15 trees, in partnership with Kildare County Council, promoting National Tree Planting Week. Hotels uniformly reduce packaging and single-use plastics and have incorporated electric vehicle charging stations in each property with more being planned.
FBD Hotels & Resorts consistently prove their dedication to a greener, more responsible approach to hospitality. All the hotels have embarked in investment of the equipment including pumps and boilers to increase energy efficiency. At least 90% of all lightbulbs throughout the hotels have been converted to LED. They also installed energy-efficient systems across properties, including combined heat & power units, faucet aerators to reduce water usage and HVAC systems to manage heat and ventilation in leisure centres. All of the hotels have substantially reduced their single use plastic items. Looking forward,
